Electronic Commerce

Description

Electronic commerce (ecommerce) encompasses any exchange of goods or services that is conducted electronically (over telecommunication networks), rather than physically (in person). Ecommerce research at Brown encompasses a variety of topics, ranging from digital security and privacy issues to auctions and dynamic pricing. The overarching vision driving this research is one of a global information society in which geographically-disparate communities of buyers and sellers can readily come together to equalize supply and demand. Progress in this area, which will require a combination of theoretical analysis, empirical studies, and simulation experiments, promises to reshape the world's economy, ultimately enhancing the welfare of our society.
