Subject: [Phd1] English Language courses

Dear Grad Students-

 

Before the start of each semester, all new international teaching assistants
(ITA's) whose first language is not English must be evaluated and certified
as proficient in English before they are allowed to teach.  I have already
contacted the ITA's for the fall courses.  If you will be an ITA in the
spring or if you want to be prepared to be an ITA during a future semester,
you should contact Jill Stewart (jill_stewart@brown.edu) or Barbara Gourlay
(Barbara_gourlay@brown.edu) to enroll in one of the evaluation sessions in
December.  The evaluations in December and January are being held on:

 

December 9, Tuesday

December 11, Thursday

January 14, Wednesday

January 15, Thursday

 

In addition, if any international graduate students want to improve their
spoken English skills, the Center for Language Studies invites you to attend
the classes held for the ITAs as space allows.  Classes for the fall
semester may already be to capacity but you can contact them to discuss
getting into either a fall or spring class.

Subject: [Phd1] Grad School Academic Code - important, please read

Hi Everyone-

 

The Grad School called me because very few of our new grad students went to
the Grad School's orientation today.  As part of their orientation, they ask
new students to read the Academic Code and sign a card agreeing to adhere to
the code.  I have the information that was handed out today, including the
code and signature cards, in my office.  Please stop by and pick up a folder
of information.  The cards need to be signed and returned to the Grad School
(NOT to me) by Friday, September 5th.  

 

Monday is a holiday so I won't be here then.  You can pick up your folder
today until 5pm today or any time after Tuesday at 9am.
