Please keep in mine the January VHF contest starting at 2PM local on 1/17 and running through 11PM local on 1/18. All amateur freqs from 50MHZ and up (except 146.52) are useable. Most activity will be on SSB but we will be monitoring the 2M FM simplex freqs of 146.400, 146.450, 146.500, & 146.550. These will be on a vertical so mobiles and base station should be able to work us. Once we make contact there we can move you to other bands if you have them. All contacts count so your help is greatly appreciated. This is simplex only. The exchange is RST and grid square. Please let me know if you have any questions and I'll try to help out. We will be operating from the Northeastern edge of FN31 in Pomfret, CT 73, Paul Rollinson KE1LI paulrollinson@sbcglobal.net -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Message-ID: <497E5823.6060200@arrl.net> Hey Gang, Here is what happens to a cell tower when the welders aren't careful enough. This tower is located right along Rt. 9 in Wellesley, MA. It's a monopole, and a crew was cutting open a port at the top to run new cables. The cables are routed inside the tower, and when the existing ports are filled, they cut open a new port and add in a structural bulkhead for strength. It normally requires acetylene torches and arc welding. Well, at some point the cables inside the tower caught fire and the following ensued.. The cable fire inside the tower ends up becoming a blast furnace because the tower acts like a big chimney, and there is plenty of fuel inside to feed the fire. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yN_KU4lmgO0&eurl=http://www.metrowestdailynews.com/multimedia/x1278516165/Cell-phone-tower-collapses-in-Wellesley SEE YA!!
