What a great time, and from what I saw on the contest scores, it looks like we made more contacts and achieved the highest score I have ever seen for our club. W2DAN is finishing compiling the data and hopefully he will post a quick summary here for us to all enjoy. :-) It was great to see a few old friends stop by. A former club president from when I first got my license, Lenny K1MYL, stayed a few hours and commented on how much things have changed and that he'd like to get "radio active" again. Welcome back Lenny! :-) And then there was the "new guy" which I affectionately called him all weekend. I think we'll be seeing Dean around more often too. Cal showed up after 20 years if being inactive, and liked what he saw, so hopefully he'll stick around also. Thanks for coming guys!! And let's not forget the 2 mom's who brought their kids (Kuss students) to enjoy the weekend with us, one of which is Joe KB1QIU, a newly license student from Kuss. PATRIOT TRIATHLON - JULY 5th This Saturday, July 5th, I need to get operators to assist with the Patriot Triathlon race. The event start & finish is at Cathedral Camp in Freetown, and we will need operators to be positioned along the race routes throughout the day. This event will run until 4:30 PM, and you should plan to be available until then. You should have at least a 2 Meter HT with spare batteries (or a 12 Volt power cord), or even better your vehicle with a mobile rig. Please bring plenty of water and snacks for yourself to last throughout the day. I honestly do not know much more than this because it is my first time participating and I have not been involved in the planning as we are assisting N1XRS & KD1CY with their efforts. Communications will be done primarily on the KD1CY 145.490 repeater (-offset PL 67.0). There may be some simplex operation also, as required. The HAMCOW will be on site and ready to go by 7 AM on Saturday morning and will be our net control station. Please arrive at 7AM and check in so we know you are there, and then you will get your assignment. If you cannot stay all day, let us know and we can try to get you into a spot along the course that will be cleared earlier in the day. As always, I can be reached via e-mail or my cell phone (617)-839-9081. We will also have 144.34 simplex running on site, the official HAMCOW simplex frequency. :-) Here is the link to the triathlon event: http://www.patriottriathlon.com/ Here are the directions to Cathedral Camp in Freetown: http://cathedralcamp.net/directions.htm EMA HURRICANE DRILL - JULY 8th I'm not sure how many operators will be required for this one, but the EMA Director is doing another table-top hurricane drill at EMA headquarters. I was asked to bring the HAMCOW but have not worked out the details with Rick on what role the Hams are playing in this one. I'll post more details tonight. I did speak with the Swansea EMA director on the air last night and I do know it will be another joint drill with Fall River, Somerset, & Swansea. Since this is a table top drill, I suspect we will not be manning any of the emergency shelters. I'll keep you posted. SEE YA!!
